Discussion on “Strengthening the provision of reproductive health services, maternal, infant and child health and the provision of Covid-19 vaccine to pregnant and breastfeeding women” at the Cambodian Red Cross

To celebrate the National Day of Maternal, Infant and Child Health, February 21, 2022, Cambodian Red Cross, whose LOUNG MÉ Norodom Monineath Sihanouk is a Honorary President and Samdech Kittipritthbindit Bun Rany HUNSEN is a CRC President, together with National Champion working group organized a discussion on”Strengthening the provision of reproductive health services, maternal, infant and child health and the provision of Covid-19 vaccine to pregnant and breastfeeding women“.  The discussion was participated by 5 speakers from the National Center for Maternal and Child Health, representatives of National Champion working group at the branch level, CRC Volunteers, pregnant women, and breastfeeding women. The whole discussion was coordinated online (Zoom) by Lok Chumteav Men Neary Sopheak, CRC first deputy secretary general and Permanent Vice President of the National Champion working group.

The event was taking place at the CRC NHQs on February 18, 2022, under the high presidency of Lok Chumteav Ouk Mali, Treasurer of the Cambodian Red Cross and Vice Chairman of the National Champion working group as well as other 30 participants including CRC officers, National Champion working group, representatives of CRC Phnom Penh branch, Kampong Cham and Kandal.

Prior to the proceeding with the above discussion, the 5 speakers and all participants attentively listened to the key points of Lok Chumteav Pum Chantinie, CRC Secretary General and Vice Chairman of the National Champion working group highlighting that “The theme of the discussion is in line with the theme of the National Day of Maternal, Infant and Child Health, February 21, 2022, which Samdech Kittipritthbindit Bun Rany HUNSEN sent a message to the compatriots as National Champion for the United Nations Secretary General’s Join Plan of Action for Women’s and Children’s Health. In that message, Samdech Kittipritthbindit also informed about Maternal, infant and child health status in Cambodia in the context of “Live normally with new modality” during Covid-19 pandemic along with what the Cambodian Red Cross and National Champion working group have been working with the Royal Government to promote the well-being of women and children towards the sustainable development goals 2030.

Lct Pum Chantinie added that “2022 is the 12th year that the Royal Government has designated February 21 every year as the National Day of Maternal, Infant and Child Health at the request of the Ministry of Health (via Sub-Decree No. 27 dated on February 14, 2011). The sub-decree, which was set for February 21, is the day that Samdech Kittipritthbindit Bun Rany HUNSEN was bestowed National Champion for the United Nations Secretary General’s Joint Plan of Action for Women’s and Children’s Health. The decision to accept this title reflects the commitment of Samdech Kittipritthbandit to take on another noble task for the sake of our motherland. We are actively involved with the Royal Government of Cambodia in efforts to reduce maternal mortality during childbirth to a minimum.

It should be noted that that the TVK and some other television stations will broadcast this program on 20-21-22 February 2022.
