Asia-Pacific Annual Meeting between the International Federation and Leaders – Secretary General of the Red Cross Red Crescent
CRC: On Wednesday afternoon, December 16, 2020, the Cambodian Red Cross (CRC), led by Lok Chumteav Pum Chantinie , CRC Secretary General, participated in the virtual Asia-Pacific annual meeting between the International Federation of Red Cross (IFRC) and the leadership-Secretary General of the Red Cross Red Crescent.
This afternoon meeting was chaired by Francesco Rocca, President of the International Federation of Red Cross (IFRC) and attended by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) as well as the 36 leaders of the Pacific countries.
The purpose of this meeting is to discuss how to manage global economic flows and the financial crisis affecting the National Societies in the Covid-19 context by ensuring that the National Societies remains the institutions trusted by the communities, donors and authorities at all levels.
During the meeting 14 Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies including Indonesia, China, Maldives, India, Afghanistan, Nepal, Japan, Australia, Cook-Island, Cambodia, Papua New Guinea, Bangladesh, Pakistan and the Philippines, shared their experiences, recommendations and suggestions to the whole meeting and to the International Federation of Red Cross.
The Cambodian Red Cross Secretary General also requested the IFRC to continue to assist in virtual training to strengthen the capacity of officers, staff, volunteers and youth in the sub-branches and to establish an online fundraising system in accordance with the social context: Lives normally in a new way. Meanwhile, the Cambodian Red Cross asked the IFRC to maintain its office in Cambodia with one representative as it is now for at least another two to three years, or until the outbreak of Covid-19 recovers.
The IFRC will take the CRC’s request into consideration and will respond to the Cambodian Red Cross.
