Meeting on mid-term review of the 2016-2018 Cooperation Agreement
In the morning of June 27, 2017, National Headquarters of the Cambodian Red Cross, organized the mid-term review of the 2016-2018 Cooperation Agreement between the Cambodian Red Cross And the International Committee of the Red Cross. The meeting was presided over by Lok Chumteav Men Nary Sophak, First Deputy Secretary-General of Cambodian Red Cross and Mr. Roman Paramonov , head of the mission the ICRC, Phnom Penh and also the participants from departments with a total of 18.
The meeting aims to share experiences gained from implementation in 2016 and 2017 and to discuss issues and plan for the second half of 2017 and 2018.
ICRC visit Safer Rural Program at Preah Vihear and Udor Meanchey Provinces
On 21 June 2017, an ICRC cooperation delegate from Bangkok , Mr Aekarad Rakwanat visited safer Rural Community program at Preah Vihear and Udor Meanchey province. The purpose of the visit is to follow up the activities of the program including mine awareness dissemination, micro loan and restoring family links.
TOT Training course on Community Based Healthy Ageing
The first roll out of Healthy Ageing Programme in ASEAN: Cambodian Red Cross prepares for an ageing society and promotes Community Based Healthy Ageing in 25 provinces and pilot projects in three provinces, supported by IFRC in partnership with Pfizer Inc. in 2017.
Today, 13 June 2017, Mme. Pum Chantinie, Secretary General, Cambodian Red Cross presides over The Training of Trainers on Community Based Healthy Ageing at Cambodian Red Cross National Head Quarter in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. There are 34 participants (Male 14, Female 20) from 25 provincial red cross branches and two Thai Red Cross representatives participating in this training course. The peer-to-peer facilitation team consists of two specialists from Bulgarian & Mongolian Red Cross National Societies with the technical support from IFRC Bangkok and Geneva.
Cambodian Red Cross National Society is the third country in the world to show the leadership and the commitment in implementing “Community Based Healthy Ageing Programme” after Montenegro, and India. IFRC supports National Societies to play a key role in promoting healthy ageing which contributes to the World Health Organization’s (WHO) Global strategy and action plan on ageing and health , which focuses on five strategic objectives:
1). commitment to action on healthy ageing in every country;
2). developing age-friendly environments;
3). aligning health systems to the needs of older populations;
4). developing sustainable and equitable systems for providing long-term care (home, communities, institutions);
5). improving measurement, monitoring and research on healthy ageing.
This 3-day training of trainers (TOT) highlights about the life course approach, healthy ageing determinants and evidence-based behaviour change theories. The toolkit includes content about noncommunicable diseases, risk factors such as falls and social isolation, healthy eating, physical activity, lifelong learning and plan of action as well as tools which provide guidance and activities to help people pursue healthier lives and enable active ageing with dignity and a better quality of life.
After this TOT training, the pilot projects in three targeted provinces - Kampot, Svay Rieng and Prey Veng will be implemented the project activities to improve the quality of life of Cambodia elderly people in rural community about 500 persons. Moreover, 90-100 Red Cross volunteers will be trained on Healthy Ageing, 18 outreach education sessions on NCD and health promotion in targeted communities at Buddhist pagodas will be conducted by trained volunteers, 3,000 healthy ageing booklets will be produced, and at least 2 case studies and stories and project review and lessons learnt reports will be developed.
Cambodian Red Cross provides ponds and wells to people in Pursat province
On the afternoon of 12 May 2017, the Cambodian Red Cross under the leadership of Samdech Kittipritthbindit Bun Rany Hun Sen, officially handed over 2 ponds and 16 wells by Ms. Men Neary Sopheak, CRC First Deputy Secretary General , H.E Mao Thonin ,Honorary President of CRC Pursat Branch to people from 448 families. The official ceremony took place in Sereimongkul pagoda, Sya Commune, Kandeang district, Pursat province.
It should be recalled that the first pond size is 35 meters width -50 meters long and 3 meters deep and the second is 40 meters width- 50 meters long and 3 meters deep.
Project Progress Meeting Between CRC and Finish Red Cross
CRC: On the morning of May 11, 2017 at the Red Cross headquarters, HE. You Lana, Second deputy secretary General of CRC met with Ms. Marjaana Pekkola, senior advisor in charge of Rural Development of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Finland, and colleagues of the Finnish Red Cross and Cambodian Red Cross.
The meeting was aimed at:
1. Monitoring and follow-up the performance activities and examining the progress and
effectiveness of Building Community Resilience project in communities supported by the
Government of Finland through the Finnish Red Cross in the targeting provinces including
Kampong Cham and Tbong Khmom in the years 2016-2018 Implementation plan
2. Examining the possibility of cooperation in the future.
Senior officials of the Finnish Foreign Ministry with the participation of officials of Cambodian Red Cross will be on mission to the two provinces from 11 and 12 May 2017.
Patients at Kean Khleang National Rehabilitation Center for Persons with Disabilities receives donation from Cambodian Red Cross
CRC: The Cambodian Red Cross with Samdech kittipritthbindit Bun Rany HUNSEN as President provided humanitarian donation to 114 patients at Kean Khleang National Rehabilitation Center for Persons with Disabilities on 3 May 2017.
Madam Pum Chantinie, Secretary General of the Cambodian Red Cross thanks to Dr. Jim Gollogly, Head of division of Children Operation for his hard - working in taking care of the patients.
In that occasion, each patient received one kids ( a box of noodle, 10 fish cans, 12 cans of fresh milk, 1 Kg of white sugar, 1 Sarong, 1 Mosquitos net, 1 blanket, 1 Krama).
It should be reaffirmed that Center provides the patients with free of charge of treatment and accommodation.
TOT training course on Water, Sanitation and Hygiene
CRC Prey Veng Branch: On the morning of February 06, 2017, H.E Sok Pheng, Permanent Vice President of the Branch Committee Chaired the Training of trainers course on Emergency water , sanitation and Hygiene for 3 days starting from 06 to 08 February 2017 under the auspices technical assistance from the headquarters of the Red Cross and the International Federation.
28 Participants attended came from the National Headquarters , Swiss Red Cross, Cambodian Red Cross branch of Prey Veng and Svay Rieng and Sub branches of d Sithor, Por Rieng district.
The purpose of the course will contributed to improve the people health in the community through strengthening staff and volunteers capacity in order to timely respond in the time of disasters and prepare to provide clean water, sanitation services in emergency.
Study tour of Red Cross Youth to understand Environment Agriculture and tree planting
CRC : On February 6, 2017. The Red Cross youth to institutes in Phnom Penh and Red Cross Advisors approximately 160 organized a trip to learn and promote knowledge about the environment and agriculture and plant trees under the theme "Youth love the environment and agriculture" in the farm land of Rithy Kiri Senmonorom located in Samrong Choeng, Sen Dei Commune, Samrong Tong District Kampong Spue Province.
The study tour was led by His Excellency Sam Kosal, Director of CRC Human Resources, staff from CRC headquarters, branch, youth advisor and youth. The aim of the study tour is to provide opportunities for Red Cross Youth to learn and promote the awareness of agriculture, irrigation and the environment in local communities to link youth with community and
Cambodian Red Cross Youth Disseminate Road Safety in Phnom Penh
Cambodian Red Cross Phnom Penh Branch: On the morning of Saturday, February 4th , 2017, as well as every previous Saturday morning, 320 Red Cross youth of Phnom Penh branch including advisers delegated by executive branch disseminated Safety of Traffic at 20 targeting spots in Phnom Penh.
The purpose of this dissemination is aimed at exhorting the drivers to obey the traffic law, traffic lights, badges, marks and driving with good manners, morality, and mutual understanding in order to avoid eventual accidents; especially to contribute in making the traffic in Phnom Penh as well as in the whole country become safe.
Cambodian Red Cross Visits Hand of Hope Community Center
In the morning of 06 February 2017, Cambodian Red Cross led by first deputy Secretary General, Madam Men Neary Sopheak visits on autism and disable children in Hand of hope Community located in Takmao Anuwat secondary school, Kandal province.
It should be confirmed that there are total of 89 children in the Center of whom 40 are in the Center and the other 49 are in community. A total of 13 staff of whom 9 are serving in the Center while 4 others are in community.
