More Than 10000 Participate in the World Red Cross Red Crescent Day,
Lok Chumteav Bun Rany Hun Sen, the CRC President, Inauguration CRC Battambang Branch. CRC works in partnership with communities through its Red Cross Volunteer network, and works with other humanitarian agencies, with donors, and with national and international institutions according to the slogan “Together for Humanity”. The Cambodian Red Cross has been regularly celebrating the World Red Cross Red Crescent Day on 8th May. This year, the celebration was launched in the newly constructed building of the CRC Battambang provincial branch office under the highest presidency of Lok Chumteav Bun Rany Hun Sen, President of the Cambodian Red Cross. For occasion, there were participation from the head of regional delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross based in Bangkok, head of the International Federation in Cambodia, representatives of partner national societies, delegations from the central committee and the branch committees. Furthermore, CRC youth and volunteers, NGOs, Government officials, and public were in attendance for a total of more than 10,000 people. As one Red Cross Volunteer stated during the celebration, “I am very happy to participate in the World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day, and I am very surprised, because I see so many people!” According to the speech of H.E. But Kim Sean, the Battambang Branch Committee President, the participation of national and international donors and the presence of Lok Chumteav Bun Rany Hun Sen, made the celebration a resounding success. Through the contribution of generous individuals, a total of USD 334,576 was raised, including the royal properties of His Majesty King Father and Her Majesty Queen Mother in the amount of 5,000USD and also the royal properties of His Majesty King 5,000USD. The celebration of the 144th World Red Cross Red Crescent Day, held at the Battambang branch office, and together with similar celebrations in various provinces and towns throughout Cambodia and the dissemination through the national media, awareness of the Red Cross and the value of humanity was raised. These efforts will encourage more involvement and active participation with the Cambodian Red Cross in strengthening partnerships to promote the effectiveness and validation of its humanitarian activities in accordance with the global theme “Together for Humanity”.
